Google Translate : Use this app for language translation. Definitely utilize speaker option when in need.
Google Maps : Has an option for offline usage. Download city map before going out, it’ll save you just in case service goes out.
City Mapper : Gives you updated transportation maps of major cities

International Driving License - If you’re planning to drive on your trip, I suggest getting an IDL. Many countries require it before you are allowed to drive. It’s a little pamphlet that translates your drivers license to 25 languages. (if you want to drive the go karts in Tokyo you need this)

Universal Adapter Plug : Sometimes we forget other countries have different plugs.
Portable Phone Charger : Always have AT LEAST two fully charged chargers during a day.
